The Sport Of Kings is often perceived solely as the playground of the super rich but if Blandford purchases over the last two decades have shown anything, it’s that you don’t have to pay a King’s ransom to buy a top class racehorse – so the joy of successful ownership is closer to hand than you think – if you receive the best advice.

Most racehorses are purchased at public auction prior to racing either as foals, yearlings or two-year-old Breeze-Up horses while some horses may be purchased privately at anytime during their careers.  Breeding stock / broodmares may also go through an auction ring but many change hands privately.  In any of these cases, Blandford agents, with their unrivalled market knowledge and contacts, are ideally placed to assist you whatever your requirements.

If you are starting out on the road of racehorse ownership for the first time, many administrative details need to be completed such as registration of your horse / horses with Weatherbys and selection of racing colours, while an introduction to suitable trainers is of paramount importance.  There will also be financial decisions related to VAT management.  Again, Blandford has enormous experience with these processes and can provide you with the best advice.

When you buy a horse at public auction, you may decide to set aside a certain amount of money for expenditure.  Our role is to source the best horse / horses available to suit any budget.  We will compile a short list for you at the sale which takes into account pedigree, conformation and athleticism of the horses catalogued, following inspection by our experts.

A veterinary surgeon can be consulted, as at many major auctions horses are subject to X-Ray analysis and throat / airway endoscopic examination.  When all relevant points are covered, we are then ready to bid on your behalf.  Some buyers prefer to attend the sale in person while many others receive our advice via phone; a number of long standing clients are happy to leave the entire process to us.
